What Causes Presbyopia?

Presbyopia differs from myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism (irregular curvature of the eye), which are all related to the shape of the eyeball and caused by genetic and environmental factors. Unlike these commonly known eye problems, presbyopia is a symptom of aging and eventually affects every individual.1

An eye care professional can diagnose presbyopia as part of a comprehensive eye exam. In addition to checking for other eye problems, they will determine your degree of presbyopia by using a standard vision test and discuss your treatment options.
